SIVA Train the Trainer Courses
SIVA (Supporting Individuals Through Valued Attachments) is a Canadian-created safety management course for mental health professionals, residential care providers, educators and caregivers responsible for individuals with special needs who engage in unsafe behaviours. SIVA is a proactive, relationship-based holistic safety management program that promotes goal-directed, collaborative efforts to maintain safety. Thousands of professionals and caregivers have embraced the SIVA model as their training program of choice. SIVA has been described as “a refreshing alternative to crisis focused programs.” SIVA is recognized by the Canadian Accreditation Council and some agencies and programs seeking C.A.R.F. accreditation (Commisson of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) has received an exemplary designation for the use of the SIVA Training model.
During the Trainer Courses participants will receive guided instruction and hands-on experience in learning the
hallmark philosophy, guiding principles and applied modules of the SIVA Program. The following are the core modules of the SIVA Safety Management Program:
Self-Care; identify and manage compassion fatigue through self-introspection and support systems
Proactive Safety Management Evaluations
Development of Collaborative WISE Plans
Development of Communication Skills that are goal-directed and build upon Collaborative WISE Plans
Emergency Safety Interventions for those situations that present an imminent risk of harm to self or others
Post interventions Management through environmental safety, debriefing and incident report writing
Instructors will also receive the following:
S.I.V.A. Instructors Manual, S.I.V.A Flash Drive with instructor materials, Complimentary S.I.V.A. Instructor
Consultations & a 2 Year S.I.V.A. Instructor Certificate.
About the Presenter:
Dr. Don Castaldi has over 20 years’ experience working with people of all ages with severe psychopathology, neuro-developmental challenges, addictive/obsessive behaviours and those who have endured and perpetrated abusive acts. He has been celebrated in Canada and the US for his knowledge, insight and ability to understand complex cases and transform direct care into collaborative goal-directed models for change. Throughout all of Dr. Castaldi’s clinical and forensic work, the understanding of resilience, relational dynamics and the building of collaborative, sustainable models of support have been paramount.
Michael Taylor has more than 23 years of front-line experience working with mentally ill and developmentally delayed clients. His commitment to the understanding and implementation of best practices in the field has led him to mentor a wide-range of agencies seeking accreditation, and improved programming and management. He is passionate about creating quality programs for the mentally ill and developmentally delayed, and the organizational culture that will support long-term, positive development.
